I have been writing full time since receiving an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Exeter in 2017. My story ‘The Latest Draft of Me’ was highly commended by the judges of the Manchester Fiction Prize and another, ‘Late Capitalism’, appeared in The Blue Nib. ‘Terry Toast’ was long listed for the Exeter Writers Short Story Prize and appeared in issue 29 of Prole Magazine. ‘Jana’ was shortlisted for the Exeter Story Prize and ‘The Thing That Happened to Phillip’ was on the long list for the Retreat West Short Story Prize. In October 2019 I was shortlisted – for an early draft of my unpublished debut novel The Blessed English Martyrs – for the Adventures in Fiction New Voices prize. My weekly essays recording my progress as I worked through The Artist’s Way, which are available on this site, were published as part of The Blue Nib’s The Write Life series. I occasionally list recommendations and invite you to support independent bookshops at bookshop.org. In December 2020 I was selected as one of the six writers invited to participate in the Northern Short Story Festival Academy.

In July 2021 I was awarded a Northern Writers’ Award for Debut Fiction and since then I have been working with an editor on a final draft of my debut novel, which I am pitching to literary agents in the hope of gaining representation.

I would love to hear from you if you have read something you have enjoyed on this site.
